From Buddha statues and rock waterfalls to succulents and mini jars of island spices, this wedding brings a new vibe to the blog. One that is both refreshing and exotic. Hawaii locals, Joann and Cory, married at a friend’s private home in Wailuku with their many close friends and family members gathered together. They kept it personal by having a friend be their officiant and a family friend cater the event. Thanks to Jackie at Tropical Maui Weddings (and the couple) for a wonderful and inspiring wedding.
From the bride:
“Cory and I met in the summer of 2009 on the UH Monoa campus in Oahu. He just graduated with a communications degree and spent the summer as a resident assistant for Frear Hall (student housing). I was part of a student christian organization (Epic/ Campus Crusade) and spent the summer at Frear Hall on a college mission trip. That is where I met Cory and we started dating that Sept. 14, 2009. We dated long distance for 2 years and I had the chance to visit Maui (Cory’s home) for spring break and winter break. After I graduated in December 2011 Cory proposed to me in front of my graduating class and all their family members! It was during the time when families would take pictures after the graduating class walked the stage! (You can watch the marriage proposal on a holiday here Here.) {We chose to get married in Maui because} most of Cory’s family and friends live in Maui. Not to mention how beautiful Maui is but the most important part was to have our family and closest friends there. The venue was a blessing from a long relationship with A Saigon Cafe’s owner Jennifer. Cory’s grandparents have been providing produce to Jennifer and once she heard what I envisioned for my “dream” wedding she opened up her home to us! {The style we envisioned for the wedding was a blend of} whimsical, rustic, eco-friendly, and DIY. {Kaua} was recommend by our wedding planner Jackie and after seeing his online portfolio I had to have him! {The most memorable moment was} the first time I saw Cory as I was walking down the isle! {My advice for people planning is to} save money and cut costs by tackling some DIY projects on your own or get your friends/ family to help.”
