From the Bride:
“I grew up vacationing in Maui and when Daniel and I started dating in high School, Daniel joined in on the family vacation fun and was hooked! As adults, we’ve continued the Maui vacation tradition and have returned several times on our own. Maui has a special place in our hearts, one filled with warm sunny memories of family and friends and because we knew we wanted a beach destination wedding, Maui was the perfect fit! We knew we wanted to get married in Maui but didn’t have the slightest idea of where to get married. I was hoping to have the wedding in a private location on the water and stumbled upon the Olowalu Plantation House venue website. After browsing the photos and reading the reviews, I booked Olowalu immediately – without even seeing it! It is an amazing venue and it was perfect for the kind of wedding we wanted. Kaua came highly recommended by our wedding coordinators Lori and Jackie from Tropical Maui Weddings. I was considering several photographers but we decided on Kaua after seeing his beautiful and creative work and reading lots of reviews. His pricing was also very reasonable compared to some quotes I had received for similar packages. When we met with Kaua about 3 months before the wedding on a quick visit to Maui, I was sold! He was so easy to be around, friendly and professional and was exactly the same on the wedding day. Daniel and I felt extremely comfortable with him on the big day and we are delighted with the beautiful memories he captured for us that day. (Some highlights included a) spontaneous wedding guest dance party on the lawn that took place in the middle of dinner – Marty Dread rocked the lawn and was taking requests throughout the cocktail hour and dinner. Daniel and I were taking sunset pictures with Kaua on the small jetty in front of Olowalu and missed the dancing but we could sure hear and see all the singing and dancing from a couple hundred yards away! It brought smiles to all our faces to see everyone having such a good time dancing and singing before the official dancing portion of the evening was even suppose to start. Another highlight was the fire dancer and drummer performance. Halfway through the reception, we surprised our guests with a fire dance show. We had DJ Del announce to the guests that they were needed on the lawn and just as he finished with the announcement, the drums started and our fire dancer appeared. All our guests were so surprised and several guests said it was one of the best fire shows they had seen. It was such a great performance and we all had a great time! If you can make it work for your budget, hire a wedding coordinator to help with logistics and to provide recommendations for vendors. I plan several large events a year in my job and consider myself a very organized and detail oriented person but to have someone helping you along the way with all the little things (and big things) was incredibly valuable. The recommendations for vendors alone were worth every penny we spent on the wedding coordinator (which was flat rate and very reasonable). Wedding coordinators have so much experience working with vendors and most have a “favorite vendor list” they’ve amassed over the years based on reliability, quality, etc. and every vendor our coordinator recommended was fantastic, provided amazing service and exceeded our expectations – especially Kaua!”
